Jack was a military history buff and nature photographer who took thousands of photos of the Gettysburg battlefield, including a small group of uncanny ones. He took the best photos with film cameras. I still have the original film prints with the dates and names of the camera stores or drugstores on the back. I wrote Haunted Ground because I thought other people would enjoy it and as a small tribute to Jack.

Gettysburg is getting a facelift. Steinwehr Avenue, where visitors like to shop and eat, has new brick sidewalks and crosswalks, new trees along the sidewalks, and new benches. The highway workers also repaved the street. They are still working on other areas in the town, which can tie up traffic, but the results will be worth it. Gettysburg is a great place for a weekend visit if you haven't been before. It's hot, though. The battlefield opens at 6:00 a.m., so take water and plan to be out early.

This week I discovered LibraryThing, a wonderful website about books, designed especially for readers. Be sure to check it out.
Hello, Hollister, (Or is it Ann?) I followed you back to your blog from mine. What a great blog! Civil War Battlefields holds a special interest for me, as it probably does for a lot of people.
ReplyDeleteI wrote a piece a couple of years ago inspired by a trip to the Vicksburg Battlefield to find a marker that listed one of my mother's friends' family member who fought in that battle.
Subsequently, I sold "Who Are Your People" to Blue Mountain Arts for inclusion in one of their small books.
By the way, love your profile statement about contemporary science fiction, "which means you can pronounce all the names." How delightfully true!
Best wishes,
Joan Reeves
Hi, Joan. Thanks for stopping by. Your own blog is a treasure of resources: http://slingwords.blogspot.com if anyone would like to check it out.
ReplyDeleteThe Civil War has a lot of personal meaning for many of us. I've never been to Vicksburg, but I've been fortunate enough to visit most of the battlefields on the east coast.
Hello, Holly,
ReplyDeleteI got your Haunted Ground book. Can't wait to dive into it though I must since I'm on deadline to publish another ebook this month.
Best wishes,
Joan
Thanks, Joan! I hope you enjoy it. I had a blast writing it. I'll have to check out some of your books, too. :)
